Fly.com is on auction at the famous domain auction house Sedo.com, currently with a bid of $125,000 and the bidding continues. With more than 3 days to go and with a reserve price in the range of $2M - $2.5M, its a hard to guess whether this domain enter the list of Top 10 most expensive domains ever sold. But as of any other auction serious bidders will only place their bids in the last moment.
Currently below domains heads the record book of most expensive domains
1. sex.com: $14.5 Million in 2006
2. fund.com: $10 Million in 2008
3. porn.com: $9.5 Million in 2007
4. business.com: $7.5M in 1999
5. beer.com: $7M in 2000
6. diamond.com $7.5M in 2006
7. casino.com: $5.5M in 2003
8. asseenontv.com: $5M in 2005
9. korea.com: $5M in 2000
10. shop.com: $3.5M in 2000
While there are stories about poker.com exchanging hands in 2007 for $27 Million that is not confirmed. And also Business.com was resold for $345 Million but that is including the business.
The current owner purchased fly.com in 1999 for $1.5M, and as the rumour goes it was sort of equivalent to about 10 years of advertising revenue. Now with the domain market having a good boom in the last decade the domain is guaranteed to fetch more.
Airlines, Travel companies, Airline ticket comparison sites such as Expedia and many more having an eager eye on this domain the possibilities are endless. Even billionaire businessmen Richard Branson might be bidding for this domain as this is the best suited domain for his newly formed company which allows people to fly into space.
What do you think? How much fly.com will fetch in the auction? the one whose prediction is the closest to the auction closing price will get a $10 GoDaddy gift card. To join the contest just comment your prediction and subscribe to the RSS feed. Contest ends on 24th September midnight. And winner will be rewarded the next day when the auction is over.
If you find it interesting add it to your favourite bookmarks!! Bonus awaits the winner if this is bookmarked

pizza.com was sold for $2.5 Million few months back. and i see much potential in this domain than that. everyone eats pizza but there are only few pizza companies out there who can afford couple of million dollars. but airlines? they are rich
so my guess would be $10M
You might want to change the gift price to 10 because that is what it said on digitalpoint.
l0l.
But I think it will be about 3mil
I’m gonna guess $7 million. $2.5 million would be a steal.
@ Sporty, Pizza buyer backed out of the deal and it never happened

Financial crisis plays it’s role and this name may even not reach the 2mill mark.
But I am optimistic and will say it goes for around 2,6mill
Goody, goody. News like these remind me of the dot com era.
My bet is that the deal will fall. Gut feeling here. I’m betting a one month dofollow link on my blog, if anyone is interested
Regards, George
just two more days to go and still the bid stands at $125000. May be all the big players are waiting till the last moment, guess FMA (Future Media Architects) will step into auction at the last moment. they are the buyers of many cool domains including cool.com
keep on guessing the numbers to win the $10 goDaddy gift card. please note that unless you subscribe to the RSS feed your entry is not valid for the contest.
Subcribe to RSS feed today, dont regret if your guess is the closest to the auction end price and you havent subscribed to the RSS feed
I think $23 million, twenty three sweet million dollars.
In which time zone will you be ending the competition as i posted my previous comment 24th september 00.25 GMT?
thats a good question, I will work with GMT. so about 20 hours more to go until midnight
unless big companies step in to the auction such as airlines who is ultimately going to use the domain this might have a tuff time meeting the reserve.
So I put it as $2.4M to be safe on both sides
I think the bubble has burst this week so its investors only. Price will be 1.65 million.
thanks Dave for the prediction. but you are just 2 hours late as I was running the contest on GMT time zone
anyways as some havent met the contest requirements such as subscribing to rss, I will be giving out another small prize to the one who predicted the closest bid price who havent met the contest requirements. so for that everyone is included, and can enter the comments until one hour before the auction end time.
just few more hours to go to see the results!!
was less than one minute to end the auction with a bid of around $200,000 but last moment got a bid of $220,000 and the auction was extended by about 10 minutes. Seems like some serious bidders are in the auction. otherwise no reason why they enter bids like this in the last moment knowing that the reserve is between $2M - $2.5M
Reminds me of one bidding war I participated at snapNames which all bided at last moment thinking someone will give up as it was going for a long time. I won it. But its not even a comparable domain to Fly.com
Seems like the bidding war will go for hours on this precious name.
checked with sedo and according to them the highest bid received was $1Million, and obviously the reserve was not met.
I will be shortly contacting the winner by email with the prize. And the one who predict the closest value havent subscribed to RSS, so the entry is not valid. But I will be giving out a small prize for that as well, but he/she need to contact me after reading this
Would that be me?
If so… what did I win?
Regards, George
Thanks George!! your prediction is correct. but havent followed the contest rules
so I have send a small GoDaddy gift card to you
